Photovoltaic systems convert solar energy radiated onto the earth into directly usable electricity. These are electrical systems connected to one or more modules composed of photovoltaic cells (electricity generators) that replace all or part of the electricity supply provided by the traditional grid.
Based on their functionality, we can distinguish between three types of photovoltaic systems: the first type includes stand-alone systems, which are used directly on site (such as private systems in homes) and supply electricity to a storage battery from which daily energy needs are drawn. Then there are grid-connected systems, which are connected to a photovoltaic energy distribution network managed by service companies. Finally, there are so-called hybrid systems, which use an automatic control unit to decide whether to use the solar energy from the panels (if available) or (e.g. at night) to connect to the traditional electricity distribution network.
